The Wintergreen Arts Center has been invited to participate in the Fort Fairfield Potato Blossom Festival this summer. On Sunday, July 12th from 2 - 5:30 at Farm Park we will be offering potato and potato blossom based art projects for the children. This will follow a magic show, so we should expect a crowd. The projects are free to the children.<br />

You may have noticed that we have a new downtown location at 149 State Street in Presque Isle. Wintergreen was given a ten year lease from Tony and Glenn Burgess-Capp free of charge with the utilities included. We now have beautiful views of the river, natural light, wood floors, and old fashioned tin ceilings. Which means the new Wintergreen is full of exciting potential! <br />
<br />
Come see it for yourself during the Presque Isle Memorial Day parade between 9:30 am and 12 pm. If you've been curious about what's been going on inside this is your chance to tour the new location and learn more.<br />
<br />
We will be selling and decorating ceramic tiles to adorn our future Children's Art Studio. A donation of $25 or more will place your child's name and artwork permanently among the names of our generous donors. Don't miss this opportunity for your child's artwork to become part of Wintergreen! <br />

In order to renovate the new Art Center, we need to raise $100,000. This money will go toward electrical improvements, a new bathroom, floor and ceiling restoration, lighting, signage, furnishings, and landscaping. Our efforts so far have raised nearly $20,000. Linda and Donald Zillman generously funded our new Poet's Corner with a $5,000 donation. Our board members have been digging deep to donate, and local businesses and individuals are giving generously.<br />

Now it's up to you. We need your donation so that we can re-open and once again be a place for all things creative. We know that times are tough right now, but if each of you provides a part of the effort, great things can happen.<br />

The Wintergreen Arts Center has moved into the new downtown space. Volunteers braved frigid temperatures in December to get the job done. Our active Thursday Open Studio volunteers also worked hard and got the space to the point where we need professional help to move forward. Which means we will be putting construction/deconstruction work in the new art center on a temporary hold while we work to raise the money.<br />

If you are interested in helping with the fundraising effort, please contact Lara Cannon at 551-0936. Plans are underway to open by August 2009 but we need your help to make it happen. If you or your organization are interested in organizing our database, writing letters, giving tours, sharing our plans, or hosting parties to benefit the Art Center we need you! Cash donations are also helpful. .<br />

The second Gingerbread Festival has come to a successful end and we have now officially celebrated the last birthday party at the Wintergreen Arts Center in the Aroostook Centre Mall. (Gasp) Fortunately, during the move and renovation of our new home in downtown Presque Isle the University of Maine (UMPI) has generously offered a temporary location so that we can continue to provide birthday parties and field trips. It's a bright and cheerful space with plenty of room for celebrating and creativity. If you would like to learn more or make a party reservation, please call Nola Farely at 551-5665.<br />

We have enjoyed the generosity of the Aroostook Centre Mall over the past two years. It has been a great place for us to begin, and we will miss many of the shop owners and mall staff who have been good neighbors and friends.<br />

Our mall operations are beginning to wind down. Here are some dates to keep in mind:<br />

1) Saturday, Nov. 15th: A magic show by Abracadabra Productions will be held at the Presque Isle Middle School. Doors will open at 12:30 pm and the performance will begin at 1 pm. Tickets are $5 each and are still available at Wilder's Jewelers in downtown Presque Isle. Tickets can be purchased at the door on a first come, first served basis.<br />

2) Saturday, Nov. 15th: There will be no Saturday Open Studio.<br />
<br />
3) Saturday, Nov. 22nd: The final Saturday Open Studio and Moving Sale will be from 10 am - 1 pm. Enjoy punch and cookies and learn more about our future plans. Some of our studio equipment, furniture and art supplies will also be for sale. Art supplies make great presents!<br />

Tony Burgess and Glenn Capp have offered a ten year lease agreement for the Arts Center to use a portion of the building located at 157 State Street in downtown Presque Isle. (Next to the Salvation Army) They have also offered to pay the utilities for the entire ten year lease. <br />
<br />
The owners' vision for the building includes repairing the crumbling side of the building, painting a mural on it, and making improvements to the front façade over the next few years. The Arts Center would like to landscape the grounds on the side of the building to provide a safe passage way from the front of the building to the parking area located behind. The owners have already started to replace the existing windows with new energy efficient ones. Mr. Burgess explained, "This building is one of the first buildings you see when you arrive in downtown Presque Isle from the airport, and we would like to be a good representation of the community. We hope that the Wintergreen Arts Center will continue to grow and thrive in this new environment so that it can bring enjoyment to many in Presque Isle and attract more businesses downtown." <br />

The move to the new location is the realization of the WGAC's long term goal to create a lasting community space and to join the Downtown's Revitalization effort to bring vitality, economic prosperity, and beauty to the downtown. Once the move and restoration effort is complete the WGAC will continue to offer children artistic and creative activities through classes, Saturday Open Studios, workshops, summer camps and community events. We also hope to create a new vibrant downtown gathering place for people of all ages to enjoy classes in art, music and dance. This location will allow us the ability to offer a wider variety of classes and provide exhibition space for local artists and performances. Future plans also include creating an elegant setting for events, receptions and celebrations. It is a wonderful gift and opportunity, the WGAC is prfoundly grateful to Tony and Glenn.<br />

As many of you know, the Wintergreen Arts Center operates on a small budget that mainly comes from donations, fundraising activities, birthday parties and donated good and services. The renovation will be expensive and will require a large community effort to raise the funds required to make the vision a reality. We will need help to raise the money, write the grant applications and do the work needed to refurbish a part of Presque Isle's history that has been vacant for many years. Volunteers plan to meet every Thursday night from 6 pm until 9 pm to prepare the new location for our community--new input, muscle, enthusiasm, expertise and skills are always welcome and invited. <br />

The first fund raising event will be a Magic Show presented by Abracadabra Productions on Saturday, November 15th. This family friendly event will include an hour and a half of magic, comedy, juggling, storytelling, mind reading, and rabbit tricks. The performance will be held at the Presque Isle Middle School from 1 pm until 2:30 pm. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at Wilder's Jewelers in downtown Presque Isle.
